(1) 金属触媒を用いたケイ素-炭素結合の生成
有機ケイ素化合物は機能性材料として注目を浴びており、ケイ素-炭素結合反応は重要である。通常は有機金属試薬とクロロシラン類を用いた反応が挙げられるが、合成できる化合物が限られる、保護-脱保護が必要になるなど合成上の問題がある。当研究室ではヒドロシランのアリール化を報告した。このカップリング反応は高収率、基質適応範囲が広いという利点を持つ。

(2) 14族元素を導入した共役系化合物の光物性
ケイ素など炭素より重い14族元素を芳香族化合物に結合させると、共役系が拡張し、物性が変化する。これは、芳香環のπ*軌道とケイ素-炭素結合のσ*軌道の相互作用による。開発したカップリング反応を用い、芳香環に14族元素を導入した。例としてシロール・ゲルモールの合成(図A)やトリス(トリメシルシリル)シリル基の導入(図B)を挙げる。これらは芳香環上の置換基を変化させることで発光波長、発光効率を調節できる。
